A Little Springsteen in Church

I led a worship conference this last weekend, and we sang Springsteen so I could show the group a style to apply to a traditional hymn. Someone in the crowd is a Springsteen aficionado, and he gave me a list of Bruce songs to sing in church. Who knew? Here they are:

Mary Don’t You Weep, We shall overcome, We are Climbing Jacob’s ladder, How can I keep form singing, This little Light of Mine, When the Saings God marching In, O Mary Don’t you Cry, Love of the Common People.

He also said to check out Pete Townsend singing, And God Made Mary Robbins, and 2000 years (about Christ’s return).

Scarcity or abundance? It’s a chain reaction…

Just led a worship seminar yesterday, lots of churches in attendance that are under 50 in worship. Greatest fear for pastors, it seams: How do we get the time to actually get out into the mission field when we have two and three churches and so few people to keep things going? It’s going to be hard, yet the answer is simple: u have to want to go, and go BADLY, to have more of God in your own life. That will drive you to do what it takes to be in God’s presence, and being in God’s presence will drive you into mission field. It will give you the courage to stop ministries that aren’t bearing fruit, to hand off important projects to others that they can do better than you, and leave you time to pursue invitation. That in turn will cause you to make changes in your worship service to welcome the mission field you’ve gotten to know and invite. It starts with you, pastors, and the handful of laypersons who follow you who want the same thing. That sequence is the most encouraging truth I know.

My hip hop passion: do u know any Christian hip hop that u like?

I love Break-estra, and Chali-2na, and J5. All secular. And, a song by Janelle Monay (spelling?) — will post it soon, have to look it up. Do u like hip hop? Great workout music. Also, Amadou and Miriam. What do u think? I have never heard good Christian hip hop that i like. ct

MUMFORD AND SONS — CHURCH MUSIC?

Mumford and Sons is a group from Ireland. They are not specifically Christian, but their music has a strong message and I think some of it could be used in a public worship service. Check out Sigh No More and Roll Away the Stone. Some of their language might offend … fyi. but it’s real.
