Luke 9:23
Then he said to them all: “If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me.”

I tend to think that many of us shy away from invitation because we fear rejection. In fact, that’s a reasonable fear because it happens. I’ve experienced it with neighbors and other acquaintances, and even family. Actually, most people DON’T reject you for talking about faith. But when it happens, it can sting. I’ve just reached the point in my own life at which I’m more concerned about being authentic than being liked. MAJOR change in my personality!

Prayer for the week:
God, give me the courage to be myself, a Christ follower with confidence.

Matthew 16:15-16
“But what about you?” he asked. “Who do you say I am?” Simon Peter answered, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.”

CT thoughts: something has to drive you to invite others to meet Christ and into Christian community. What is your belief? That’s also your drive. It must be passion, and heart and soul. it’s the only thing that works because when you invite, others reject you. Only the drive you have to serve God gives you the courage to withstand the slings and arrows.

PRAYER FOR MEDITATION for the week starting Friday May 11:

God, give me the passion of believing in you and the courage to tell others about that relationship, and to invite them into that relationship too.

Matthew 9:37-38
Then he said to his disciples, “The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field.”

God, help me see the harvest, and help me help others see the same.

God, help me open my heart to those who are outside the walls of the church building, of my church building, without judgment, only with the heart of authenticity and true relationship, to be open to hearing their stories. Give me the words to say when I hear their yearnings, so that I can draw from my own experiences and offer your hope.

MEDITATE on scripture and a prayer this week, TALK about faith with friends, relatives, coworkers, INVITE them to meet Christ and to your church. Pastors, PREACH about these things, by scripture and about your activity in the mission field. Pray this prayer and ask your followers to pray it too.

Scripture passage: Acts 2: 42-47

Prayer: God, open our hearts, minds, spirits and souls to those persons you want to add to our numbers.
